When the oak is felled the whole forest echoes with its fall, but a hundred acorns are sown in silence by an unnoticed breeze.

Southern Counties Forestry
Southern Counties Forestry undertakes a wide aspect of forestry work from planting and aftercare to felling and clearance work. Every year we undertake new and restock woodland planting plus hedgerows and parkland tree planting. We then undertake aftercare of any new planting for the next 3 to 5 years until the trees are well established. Often trees need to be protected from deer and rabbit damage which normally means using tree shelter tubes, spiral guards, fencing or a combination of all three.
We supply and plant all types and sizes of hedging with the appropriate protection and support.
We are increasingly using cell grown plants as they have many benefits over bare root plants.
For smaller projects we recommend planting 6ft - 8ft hedging plants to give an instant hedge.
We supply and plant all types and sizes of trees with the appropriate protection and support.
We are increasingly using cell grown plants as they have many benefits over bare root plants for only a small increase in cost.
For smaller projects we recommend planting standards or heavy standards which may be around 10ft tall.
We cover all types of tree felling from small scrubby trees to large mature trees whether it is a single tree, a clear fell or clearing trees from heathland.
The timber can then be extracted and marketed appropriately.
There are many areas of over stood coppice in the south of England.
We can coppice these areas provide a parcel of firewood to offset the cost of the operation and then protect the re-growth against deer grazing to allow for good useable Hazel for hurdle making.
One of the most beneficial actions for newly planted trees is good weed control for the first 3 to 5 years.
Spot or Band spraying around the trees with a herbicide such as Round Up will greatly increase the trees chance of survival and maximise growth.
Rhododendron has been allowed to overtake many woodlands leaving them impenetrable and of no use for sporting, conservation or commercial activity.
We use a mixture of mulching, rake and burn and hand cutting to clear these areas so they can be of benefit to the landowner for their desired use.
Most young forestry plantation will need brush cutting in the first 5 years of establishment.
We use high power machines with clearing saw blades to weed out the unwanted vegetation to allow the main crop to develop.
Should you need any form of tree surgery undertaken we can complete it for you.
From crown reductions, complete tree removal, stump grinding, tree surveys and advice on diseased trees we have the qualifications and expertise to complete the work.
We often undertake fencing work as part of a new planting scheme when stock or deer fencing is needed to protect the crop from browsing.
We complete stock, deer and post and rail fencing using treated softwood or hardwood stakes.
